The South Devon Players Theatre & Film Casting Agency
Frequently asked questions
By Casting Directors
* Do you have anyone suitable for my production? Please see our talent page. All these cast are vetted, and will have links to other work, and a skills list. Outside of that, we do know other people whom we have not been able to "vet" yet, but cannot vouch for their skills. We do not pass on castings to unvetted people, unless you specifically ask. * How do I know that your actors have suitable abilities for my production? All actors on our site have performed with us to a very high standard, and are most willing to audition with you to demonstrate their abilities. * Where are you based? We are based in Brixham, South Devon, UK. Our actors are from around the South Devon area. * Are you amdram? We are a collaborative group of local actors and talents, who either have, or are aiming, towards professional careers in theatre or film. The intention of all involved with us, is to create careers in theatre and film. Our internal productions are profit-share. * What are the actors day-rates? We do not set a day-rate. Fees are negotiable. We are well aware that different projects have different budgets. However, we expect an ethical compensation to actors. A local sixth form college student is still able to provide footage and photos to our cast, but may not be able to pay a wage, whereas we would expect a production by a large national or international TV or film production company to be able and willing pay the cast. * I am looking to cast an "adult" or Xrated project. Can you help? We will not be able to pass on such castings. Sorry. * How do we pay the actors? This is inline with your company requirements. We can either accept the payment, and forward it to the actor(s), or you are welcome to pay them directly. This is also the same with portfolio material. * What if an actor proves unreliable, no-shows, or causes problems on set? Please inform us at once. We are strict with whom we represent, so that we put forward only the best of our team. Our actors are reminded that they are personally responsible for their conduct on set, but any unprofessional behaviour will result in their removal from our books, at once. |

* How can I join the agency? You need to have completed at least one theatre or film production with us in good standing (meaning that your performance, and general conduct has been deemed of professional quality.). * Do I have to pay for headshots or showreels? Not at all. You are welcome to supply headshots and showreels of your own, though we will assist free of charge where possible. You are encouraged to have your showreel hosted on your own Youtube, and a facebook page, or website dedicated to your work. * How much work can I find through the agency? We can never guarantee what you will find, as it depends on what productions approach us, and what their requirements are. We do however do our best to raise the profile of the agency, and to give everyone as much chance as possible. Like the rest of the South Devon Players, we are a collaborative team. * What fees do you charge? How much do I have to pay you if I get cast through here? We do not charge any registration fees. If you get paid work through us, and are happy with it, we welcome a donation to our running costs, but the amount is completely discretionary on your part. * If I find work myself or via another agency, do you expect a "cut" of my earnings? No. *Can I put photos or videos of my work via your agency, on my website or social media? This depends on whether you have the written permission of the production director or producers, or not. Unless you do, then we advise not doing so. On-set selfies are an absolute no-no. * What if I arrive on set and I am asked to do something that was not agreed or mentioned in the casting? Please raise the question at once with the director or producers. If you have been asked to do anything not previously described (eg, something that you do not feel safe doing, or suddenly asked to do a nude scene etc) then you may leave the set if the senior production crew are not willing to rectify the issue. If this happens, please inform us immediately. * You have contacted me with a casting; how do I apply for it? There will be information on how to apply, if you need assistance, please let us know. * There is a celebrity on set, how should I behave? They are a human being, the same as anyone else! Please keep it professional, dont ask for autographs or photos with. They are there to work too. Some productions may have especial security rules around celebrities, so please adhere to those. * When will I get paid? You may be paid directly, or it may be sent to us, to pass on to you, dependent on the production. You will be made aware of this with the information on the production. For work purposes, you are self employed and will need to register as such when you gain your first paid work. |
