Sir Walter's Women
- Broadcast page

This is a one-act drama about the life of Sir Walter Raleigh as he manoeuvres his status as a favourite of Elizabeth I to satisfy his political ambitions. Into the Court arrives Bess Throckmorton. They fall in love and marry in secret, to the great and lasting displeasure of the Queen. The Queen dies and the envious James I comes to power and the play ends with Sir Walter's incarceration, trial and execution.

A play by Rachel O'Neill

Read about the production adventure

Thank you so much for coming to join us, supporting theatre through these unprecendented times, from the safety of your own home! Our team are also coming together in cyber-space to create entertainment and performances for you, and also to continue to earn (after all the livelihoods of most actors and creatives have ended with social distancing meaning that live performances in theatres are postponed, and film productions on hold.) So, rather than performing on a theatre stage, as we would normally; we are coming together in cyberspace from our own home studios, to bring you great theatre through the internet instead!
 What to expect
The film will go live, at what, in a theatre, would be the "curtain up" time - in this case at 7.30pm (UK time) on Saturday November 28th 7.30pm 2020. The show will then be available to watch for the ensuing 48 hours, to ensure access to people around the world in all time-zones.

Please note that the screening event will only be accessible to those who have purchased tickets in advance, and who have been provided with this page link.

You will have the best audience experience by viewing this production on a laptop, PC or tablet, rather than the small screen of a smartphone. We would also recomend that you connect to your home WIFI, rather than using mobile data.

You may be experiencing live theatre this way for the first time..  We have taken a lot of time to work out what is the most user-friendly, and accessible way of presenting the performance and interaction for you. As we are still new to creating an online project like this (to create theatre in a pandemic - something for which there is no manual!), we would also be very interested in all comments, questions and feedback - please just drop us a line to southdevonplayers@gmail.com

For the benefit of those in other (non-UK timezones), or anyone who has tech issues at the time, the link to watch the show will remain up for the following 48 hours.
