The Singer Family Tomb, Torquay.

3/4/2015

Although not quite Brixham, this is an important piece of history for Torbay.
Isaac Singer, the Victorian inventor of the Singer sewing machines, and the man who had Oldway Mansion built based on his fortune, was laid to rest in his family's tomb in the cemetery in Hele, Torquay. This is something some of our theatre team discovered the other day while on our way to a photoshoot. To this day, many of our theatre costumes are made on a Singer sewing machine which must be over 100 years old, and is still working perfectly.
